I'm running g2.3. When I try to add a new default setting or override setting to the slideshow applet settings I get the following error: "You must enter a variable name and value."

It works for me at the same host. Can you post a screenshot of the Slideshow Applet settings screen?

Hi Nivekiam,

Here is a screenshot of the Slideshow Applet Settings page after I entered slideshowCaptionLocation into the "New Variable" field and 0 into the field after the = sign. The same thing happens whether I add these values into the Defaults or Overrides.

As you can see, I've edited the settings templates so that they fit properly into my 800px wide "siteContainer" div and are visible against by black background. I believe it's the same template I developed when I was on g2.2.2. Perhaps that is the problem. I will try taking fresh template files from g2.3, making the same cosmetic changes and placing those in the local folder.

One more question while I have your attention... On my computer, which has Gallery Remote and ImageMagick installed, the slideshow photos dissolve from one to the next. When I view tyhe slideshow on a friend's Mac laptop, the transitions are straight cuts. Is there a way to make it so that the transitions dissolve on other people's computers even if they don't have Gallery Remote and ImageMagick installed?

I also noticed a warning on my friend's laptop that said the application in "unsigned". I had to click through this to start the slideshow. Is there a way to get rid of that, too?

Thanks!
Neil Girardi

Hmmm, looks like there's a bug to not allow/recognize variables that have a setting of 0. So perhaps that's the default? I don't know. I don't use or like the slideshow applet never have :)

About the transitions, no clue. Do they work on Linux? Could just be Java based functionality that's only available on Windows. Have you tried different browsers on Windows? Maybe it only works in IE?

As for the unsigned issue, check this, I think the applet/jar file(s) have been updated:
http://www.gallery2.hu/#GalleryRemote

Yeah, it looks like paour has updated that:
http://fisheye3.atlassian.com/browse/gallery/trunk/gallery2/
http://fisheye3.atlassian.com/browse/gallery/trunk/gallery2/modules/slideshowapplet

I'm not sure how to get the newest files other than using svn checkout....

To save your server the load of doing that checkout I've done that and zipped it up. I'll PM you a URL to download that zip. You may just want to pickout the plugins that have these signed applets. remote, upload applet, slideshow applet (I think that's all of them) as this is the full enchilada, all language, all (non-community) plugins, etc. Similar to grabbing the developer build here:

Thanks Nivekiam,

Should I pursue my idea of replacing the edited Admin / Setting Menu templates or no?

Basically want I want to do is set it so that people viewing the slideshow at home won't see any text over the images (file name, file progress, etc.) , won't get the unsigned error, and will have dissolves. This is how it appears on my computer which is a PC running Win XP. I've tried it on two different OS X laptops and I got text over picture and hard cut transitions on both. One was using Safari and the other was suing Firefox.

Thanks!

I think leaving the template should be fine, however, the update I sent you will overwrite at least one of those that I noticed. Personally, I like to use just the Matrix theme for the Admin settings, sure it doesn't look like the rest of the site, but I'm the only person uploading photos and doing admin stuff on my sites :)

I don't know what to say about the Macs, I don't even have remotely close access to one to be able to test. I take it you don't care for the normal slideshow plugin that uses Cooliris? Let the 0.5% of your visitors who'll be using a Mac suffer? :) Well o.k. to be fair 7.6% of my visitors on my production site are Mac users, that's for a local brick-n-mortar store and I live in an area that has a higher than average level of technology and tech friendly people :)

I think the update I sent you will take care of the "unsigned" error until March 6th, 2011

Hey Man,

I like both of the slideshows. I like the applet because it's full screen and I think that's a fairly unique feature. (I've seen plenty of flash slideshows on websites but I don't recall seeing too many full screen ones).

I did some experimentation with the settings and I was able to sort some things out:

1. allowUnacceleratedTransition=true give me the dissolve transition on my mac, which DOES NOT have Gallery Remote or ImageMagick installed on it. The dissolve doesn't look as good as it does on my PC with GR and IM installed, but it's better than the hard cut.

2. slideshowProgressLocation=00 removes the caption that says "Showing picture001.jpg." The following doc:

https://gallery.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gallery/trunk/gallery_remote/defaults.properties

says you're suppossed to set it to "0" to make it go away. However, it doesn't accept 0 as a variable. It does seem to accept "00" as a variable and turn it off.

3. suppressWarningIM=true gets rid of the error that pops up at the end of the slideshow telling me that "ImageMagick is either malfunctioning or can not be found..." I thought it got rid of the unsigned warning too, but after a few tries it came back.

So I downloaded that Gallery2.3 zip that you sent me. Am I re-installing g2.3 or just cherry picking specific files from the unzipped package and overwriting the existing files by FTP-ing to the same directory?

Thanks!!!

Seems like a bug to me. But it probably won't get fixed unless you want to dig into the code and fix it :)

About the zip, cherry pick was my intention, I replied to your PM
