My gallery 2 installation suddenly stopped serving all images. I was browsing the images and I had deleted a few, then suddenly nothing.

I've looked through the troubleshooting and I've tried numerous thing such as resetting the caches, etc but nothing I've tried seems to work.

I tried rebuilding the thumbnails and that locks up about halfway.

I've even tried upgrading to version 3, in g3 it got to 474 out of 2800 images and then hung. None of the images display, although if I look at 'new' images in the RSS feed they are there.

the gallery is www.ontheboat.net/gallery2/

You're posting about 2 totally different versions of Gallery. Let's focus on G2 for the moment.

Quote:
lock.system=database

First, change that to file locking. You're on Linux and there's no good reason to use database as the locking mechanism. Go to Site Admin > General (first page you land on)

Quote:
Toolkits = Exif, Getid3, LinkItemToolkit, Thumbnail, Gd, ArchiveUpload, ImageMagick, NetPBM, SquareThumb

Go to Site Admin > Plugins and uninstall:
Exif
Getid3
LinkItemToolkit
Thumbnail
Gd
ArchiveUpload
NetPBM
SquareThumb

No go to Site Admin > ImageMagick and click on Test Settings. Does it fail or pass?
