My installation of g2.3 is causing excessive server resource usage. my hosting account is now suspended and i cannot access it for information. Any ideas of what would cause excessive server resoure usage in a general gallery 2.3 installation with approx 10,000 pictures ?

I guess without accessing the site you can only ask you host what resource.
There is CPU, PHP, DB, Server just to name a few.
What host? I suspect they said they had 'unlimited' something when you signed up.

they mentioned CPU and Memory usage at my last conversation. the host is arvixe.com and is a shared hosting plan, and their solution is to move to a dedicated server and that is way too much money, way more than in my budget. btw everything was unlimited, diskspace, bandwidth, domains etc... maybe you could reccommend a host to me. i am currently looking at VPS with Hostgator.com

thanks

Unfortunately G2 is a "resource-hog". Exactly what resources depends not so much on the number of images but the number of visitors, the size of those images, what caching and acceration you've configured, what modules are in use on your G2 installation and a lot of other factors.

Also unfortunately, but not unreasonably, *all* cheap hosting packages have limitations, whether they tell you about them in advance or not. You always get what you pay for. You may have to consider that the ability to host your 10k pictures on G2 is simply out of your price range.

I once tried an "unlimited" VPS product for one of my G2 installations. Unfortunately there was a limit to the number of files that could be open at once (so much for "unlimited") which meant that only two people would have been able to visit the website at any give time. Not much use. Naturally it cost me 3 months' subscriptions and much time on installation and configuration to find this out.

Hostgator.com has a file quantity limit, as alecmyers describes.
