Is there anyway to speed up Gallary3 or are there any plans to improve this?

G3 is an order of magnitude faster than G2. We don't send image requests though a firewall and images are severed via the server not though a proxy.
We have not done database benchmarking yet and that should improve things a bit.
Where are you seeing speed issues? Perhaps it is the host you are on.

Could you post a link to your site?

We've only seen a very small number (2, IIRC) people mentioning speed issues and that so far seems to be related to the combined javascript/css generation and something wacky on their systems.
