Is it possible to remove full size picture and just keep 800px versions? I do not want to re-upload them.

I haven't tried this, but here's one possible option.
Install/Activate the Size Limit plugin:
http://codex.gallery2.org/Gallery2:Modules:sizelimit
Set that to the size you want and you could remove the resized version all together. You'd have to give visitors access to the full size image for them to see anything other than the thumbnail though.
