I am working on major release of my theme and considering many changes in layout ,especially in thumb design, I would use some help with preliminary testing.

Main work is done around a new Thumb Aspect Ratio option (see attachments below), but it is not limited to it.

I would like to test run the albums level of the theme and get a feedback on it:

  • Thumb size, crop and scale (current is Digital 4:3)
  • Thumb centering for portrait photos
  • Thumb info overlay and transparency, alignment

Comments are welcomed and appreciated.

BTW some wonderful pictures here. Thanks for introducing them to us.

Early reactions to your coding:

(1) I like the quick ID on each thumb -- better than drop boxes. But I would not prefer the "number of views" and "owner" info here. Not applicable to everyone. I would like to give some of that space back to the thumb, maybe put a photo date there, or something else?

(2) I find the views of the photos awkward (I know basic G3 code controls some of this). If the first enlargement from a thumb selected were auto sized to fill the entire viewing screen area (and not require scrolling down and up) -- then the selection of a "Full Size" would make more sense. At this point it's almost backwards. Vertical views are most affected, but all are depending on how dramatically one wants to play with browser zoom settings. This is true both in Google Chrome and in Firefox. And -- I think the term "Full Page View" is actually more accurate than "Full Size".

1) Number of views (called metadata) is actually a configuration option. if you do not like it, you have option not to show it
There are a lot of options for the theme you can explore and choose from.
2) this is all depend on resize settings, I am still deciding what max hight I want to use, which would give you what you want.
There is a slight difference between individual photo view (controlled by resize size), then full size.
Resize is not actual photo as you can imagine and as a result has less quality of original photo.
Full Size actually is original photo even though it is shown to fit the browser fit - this is a setting of Shadowbox and can be changed to allow you have picture in actual size shown in the view panel (as a view window over the picture, partial view ) and be able to drag picture around to see not visible parts.
Main reason I have "fit-the-screen" mode right now so that I do not have to do that.
Same time visitor still have access to original photo with no compression/resize losses

Hi, you are really working hard !!!!

Checking into 2.0.2 version:

Generally (without knowing what theme options you are including -- I would prefer:

---- Less space devoted to comments on both album thumbs AND pictures in albums. Perhaps a much smaller box, allowing for more thumbs/comments on each page. I think thumb size can be reduced slightly also to accommodate this, without any artistic loss. Present theme design is handsome but very wasteful of screen area.

---- In that regard, at least 6 album thumbs (possibly 9) on each main gallery page. Perhaps 9 ( 12?) on each actual picture page.

---- Personally I hope the sidebar (right or left) can be removed totally as an option. I would guess many potential users don't use or desire random pics, ads, or any other eye candy -- it might be useful in the future, though. Taking back sidebar area would hopefully permit the higher number of thumbs, even keeping comments.

Very interesting revision, in general.

In general, theme is not designed around thumb description, it is available on the individual photo level. This is a new option - "detail view" layout. Number of rows displayed is is configurable since theme introduction.
My web-site site is not a good example for that layout, since I do not have much of extra data provided, but it would accommodate people who are commenting on the issue - Random Example
Personally, for my gallery I would not use it, but rather use thumb-image-only based design - see theme's screenshot on codex.
Otherwise, it is just the same thumb image size as for non-detail view where row contains 3-4 items.
I may consider be able to have thumb with 2-3 rows comment just below thumb image, but it is not the initial intend of the theme. Perhaps I can add it into the wish list.

Theme is not designed to use number of thumbs, but rather number of rows. If you want to display 9/12 rows, it is part of configuration. In base mode for the theme you would see 3-4 thumbs per row with default set to 3 rows.

I would suggest try the theme in action to explore admin possibilities. :)
Yes, it is part of theme options, as well as visitor could be allowed to choose between left/right/hide (see buttons above sidebar). This option was available from the introduction in v.1.5
