Thanks, Dave. I was not aware of that. I'll probably go with something else. Looks like Gallery 3 is not ready for prime time. That's too bad. I really like the look and feel of Gallery 3, but I don't want a "root" album. I want them separate for a reason.

All album in any software have a root album. I guess we can agree to disagree as I don't think we understand each other.
Ok, I probably did not make myself clear. I apologize. Let's try again!
I had five albums. Each was a subset of the other, depending on which order each was set up. The root album was named "nature" and the "artchitecture" album was a subset of "nature". The next album was a subset of "nature" and so on.
I'm wondering if I screwed up on my installation. Maybe I did something wrong.
I'm a photographer who wants to get his stuff online so publishers can find and purchase photos. That way the photographer get to eat, and pay house notes, and feed the cats. I'm not much of a website builder. Thank goodness I don't depend on it to feed the cats.

In your root album create 2 albums:
nature &
architecture
Then in those albums you can have sub albums: nature
- trees
- animals
-- birds
--- doves
--- pigeons
architecture - buildings
-- hi-rise
--- over 30 story
--- over 100 story
- bridges
-- suspension
--- Golden gate
-- truss
-- arch
--- 5th st. bridge
I suspect you did not create 2 albums in the root album. In the root album you can rename it and add su-albums as well as items as well.
Giving a more detailed example of what you are after might help us understand what you are after.
Ah-Ha! Ok, I get it now! I'll try again. BTW, should I be using Gallery 2 or using the newer Gallery 3? Gallery 3 seems new and untested.

@G2 or G3: Up to you. G2 has a lot more plugins, but comes with some blot as well. G3 is faster but has less features and is easier to customize and has not finished a release candidate.

When adding albums go to the album you want them to reside in. Remember the root album is an album.
@adding shortcuts: Manually yes if you edit the theme. Automatically, no unless somebody develops a album list module.
