500 error when rebuilding thumbnails/resizes

everytime i try to rebuild the thumbnails i get a server 500 error. is there a way to limit how many images try to resize at a time? there are around 6,000 images.


Gallery version = 2.3.1 core 1.3.0.1
PHP version (e.g. 5.1.6): 5.2.10

are you doing this via Edit Album > Album (tab) > Apply settings to existing items > Build resize/thumbnails too *
or in Site Admin > Maintenance > Build all thumbnails/resizes (task) ?

have you tried switching to file-based locking instead of database? see Site Admin > Locking System to see if that helps?
