The best way to programmatically interact with Gallery is to use the various Gallery APIs. These are well defined interfaces that allow you to get access to almost all aspects of the Gallery framework in a reliable and efficient manner. Developers should keep an eye on changes in the APIs to make sure their code is compatible with the latest Gallery version.

Just writing out a few things to help people getting started..

We have some new Theme documentation and a Tpl Reference. This page is still a good summary.

  • Add your website header/footer/sidebar.
The place to start for customization to affect all pages is themes/matrix/templates/theme.tpl. Instructions at the top explain how to create a "local template" file that is used in place of the default file (same concept as "html_wrap" if you are familiar with G1).

Here is my vision for the G2 user interface. As we design and implement the user interface we should keep these goals in sight.

  • Gallery 2.x will have a UI that makes people say WOW.
  • The interface will be intuitively easy in all languages.
  • The interface will get the job done without a lot of clutter.
  • The interface will be slick and seamless with attractive graphics.
