Updates and Support for Gallery2

How long will Gallery2 be maintained with updates?
We are going to start a new Gallery2 project and can't rely on Gallery3 because of lacking MSSQL support and plugins.
Can we be sure, that Gallery2 will be maintained for some time?

Aside from critical security updates, Gallery2 isn't being maintained at all and hasn't been for at least a couple of years.

Critical updates and support for as long as the team and community are about.
