I hate to ask for this: Gallery-Alternative?

Hi,

I've been a happy Gallery user for quite some time (yes, I even donated *g), but I had to change my provider recently and the new has saf_mode on for PHP - that means I can't use Gallery any more :(

Has anyone found a comparable product (I know, nothing really compares to Gallery), that doesn't require safe_mode to be off for PHP?

All helpfull links are greatly appreciated!

Marco

in another thread of this forum here, someone posted "coppermine" as an alternative to gallery.

but the link is obviously half dead (forbidden).
4images isn't a real alternative if you ask me.
i guess with gallery 2 and other db based galleries you won't need safe_mode (even if g2 will require safe_mode off, i guess you get by without enabled safe_mode).

http://coppermine.sourceforge.net/

(you need GD if you have safe mode enabled)

Be aware, though, that GD1 creates absolutely horrendous thumbnails. I don't know about GD2..

Thanks folks,

I checked out PHPhotoalbum (which Coppermine is based on) and ran again into problems, with safe_mode, because some tasks took longer then 30s...

Coppermine is better, but of course I only have the horrible thumbnails with GD1... Well, at least you can upload your own thumbnails and scaled images...
