G'day all
over the years I have migrated gallery (2 and 3) to a new server a number of times. I've had 1/10 work flawlessly :-(

I'm trying to migrate this site http://honeytreephotography.com.au/gallery2/main.php The theme is a cloned and modified 'carbon'

After carefully cloning the DB and g2data I was rewarded with a blank page saying 'Error'

I clean installed gallery2 and kept the g2data and DB. I was rewarded with All plugin options greyed and 'Error' on a plain page.

Clean install of gallery2 and all works. I installed my cloned theme, called honey, and (random selection) carbon.

When doing site admin (plugins the honey and carbon themes installed) theme select either carbon or honey 'save preferences' and the theme reverts to matrix. Googling has mentioned, but not solved this behaviour, it does not occur on my old server and does happen on two new servers (the real one in USA, and a VM here) All three servers are CentOS 5.5 64 bit

can anybody offer word of wisdom please?

James

Most likely meaning your database username, password, database name or database host information are incorrect...

Check config.php and follow these instructions.
FAQ: How can I move my Gallery installation from one server to another?

I've moved G1, G2 and G3 many times to different servers and none have had issues.

There are 2 places where you can set the theme. Site Admin > Themes and under each album when editing the album under the Theme tab.

Carefully cloning mean the username and password and DB name are correct :-) (but if I could have $1 for every time I've seen the question ...)
My user (my daughter) cannot be expected to do an album->theme setting, she make and deletes albums every few days.

Since I've fought this (clone server) dragon lots of times. I do win. http://66.147.244.83/~honeytr1/gallery2/main.php

But now login gives a page
Security Error
or just
Error
An Error has occurred
Back to gallery

Where can I track down details

Again: A clean install works correctly, except I cannot change the theme from 'matrix'
Heck I'm just about ready to rename my theme matrix, but that is silly

Try putting Gallery into debug mode and see if that gives you more information:

Thanks for the debug pointer.
It showed exactly the error

if you have modules in the DB that are not installed then 'Something is Wrong' (me being snarky about 'Error')
In any event thanks to all

FWIW I built a vm, did a fresh install, added everything I needed, updated g2data and the DB then used that to sort out the real server

Against stupidity the gods battle in vain
I have read it dozens of times
I would have bet-my-house I followed it to the letter
Sorry for the waste of help, but thanks
