Japanese Support?

hi,
im trying to get japanese language support going, so some users can use the gallery with japanese text/options.
so i added the drop box which can select the language, but even upon changing it to japanese, the display is still in english...
is something i missed?

If you feel comfortable doing so, send a Personal message to Jens with your account details, the FTP address, username and password. Then he can connect to your site and have a play with it.

If you have SSH or telnet access, even better and easier for him.

i just installed 1.4.1-cvs ...
works perfect.

Kick your 1.4 *g*
Just edit config.php of the 1.4.1 to your needs.
If you remove your gallery folder you can rename the gallery-1.4.1 to gallery...

that worked!
BUT, some problems:

1) config process (when setting up gallery) is now displayed in funny characters. I can display it in Japanese ok, but no english!!

2) When viewing an image and trying to change language from that page, the following error appears:
ERROR: requested index [] out of bounds [9]
its ok on album pages, and main page. Just when viewing an image itself.

3) The EUC-JP encoding used by gallery is a bit of a problem, because when Japanese text is written (in comments or other things) it often seems to be encoded in SHIFT-JIS encoding. So as a result does not display correctly when the language is set to use EUC-JP.
I could see the text, by changing the browser encoding to SHIFT-JIS, but then all the interface (encoded with EUC) just became unreadable.
Im not sure how this can be fixed, since there seems to be some conflict between the 2 encoding methods...

Just an update:
the config now works in english! im not sure why it didnt before...
and the changing language problem seems to work for now too.
so thats all good.

there is still the problem with encoding however.
and additionally when i changed to the new version of gallery a problem appeared with uploading images.
this is the error:

/usr/pkg/bin/convert: Missing geometry (-geometry).

Status: 1 (expected 0)
Error: Unable to make thumbnail (0)!

perhaps imagemagik also needs to be updated?

This is a encoding Problem and we dont have a real Solution for this yes.
The only good solution where to encode everything in UTF8. But then we cant use Gallery in *NUKE or phpBB ...

There was a bug in b173 ...
I updated your Gallery to b174.
Its not a ImageMagick thing.

Jens, thanks! ..but actually there is still the same error when im trying to use imagemagick.

also, couldnt you just include a shift-JIS encoded version and have it as an alternative which users could choose?
probably i dont know what im talking about, but it sounds good in my brain.. hehe
