No RSS update when uploading with REST

I'm using a python script & Gallery3:API:REST to upload photos and movies to my gallery. I love the RSS feature but it only seems to fire when I upload manually from Firefox and not from my python script. Is this normal? Is there a way to trigger update notifications from my python script?

Thanks to all concerned for such a great piece of software. I only discovered Gallery yesterday.
