Cant get any random photo block or last update block to work

Hi!
I'm running gallery version 1.4-pl1 and php nuke version 6.9
and I cant get ANY random photo block or last update block to work.
what version of gallery and php nuke is the best to get these 2 blocks to work ?

any ideas ? everything else is working greate ( I think ) ;)
