Running v1.4.1-cvs-b164 setting Maximum File Size to 140K no limitation on the image dimensions, Gallery will automatically adjust the JPG Quality downwards until it fits within the required filesize but the jpg dimensions have not changed. (Which is perfect)

Same file uploading via Gallery Remote 1.2-B11 using the resize before upload option - Album Default instead of altering the quality of the JPG as per Gallery v1.4.1-cvs-b164 instead the jpg dimensions are altered.

Is this a limitation of Gallery Remote, that is it can only resize images rather than adjust the quality of the jpg like Gallery can?

Yes, this feature of reducing quality to meet a certain file size is net yet implemented in GR. Also not implemented is support for 'maximum pixel size' from the 1.4.1 betas. I can't create tasks right now for these features because sf.net is offline. I'll try to remember to do it later.

Did you have a chance to update the task list as I cannot seem to find the task that addresses this??

Thanks for keeping me honest. I have now created the task.

Paour,

What ever happened to this Issue?? Last time we spoke it was going to be in the next release but a few releases later and almost six months uploading a photo with this feature turned on will produce a different and undesirable result than Gallery.. Having to upload a 300k file to only have gallery resize it back to 140K is a serious waste of time and bandwidth..

Please extend GR to handle this requirement.

ozgreg, we have not yet implemented it. I still hope to add it to GR 1.4, but as I've started working on G2, I have little time to work on GR 1.4.

I'll gladly incorporate a patch that adds this feature to GR, but I can't work on it in the next month or so.

Sorry...

Did this ever get resolved? I'm still noticing the same behavior - resizing via GR give much worse results than uploading and resizing via Gallery.

If not is this on the horizon to be fixed?

Thanks

No it is not resolved :-( I had to turn this off, because it really produces undesirable results in GR when you turn this "feature" on.

Personally I hate having to upload a 400KB file only to have Gallery re quality it down to 140KB, so much better to get GR to adjust the file so you only upload 140KB.

I was under the impression that both Gallery and GR were using ImageMagick to resize, so why do the results seem better (much less pixelated) when Gallery does the resizing? Is it because you can control the Jpeg quality? If so, is that a setting one could edit in GR?
