I looked through a lot old posts but I was unable to find an answer, so I'll post my question.
I am locked out of G2.2 and unable to use the Password Recovery feature.
Here are the specs and server info for my "photos"; (which I can log into)
Gallery version = 2.2.6 core 1.2.0.8
PHP version = 5.2.17 cgi
Webserver = Apache/2
Database = mysqlt 5.0.91-log, lock.system=flock
Toolkits = Dcraw, ImageMagick, LinkItemToolkit, SquareThumb, Thumbnail, Gd, NetPBM
Acceleration = none, none
Operating system = Linux boscgi1702.eigbox.net 3.0.4-nx #1 SMP Wed Sep 28 16:57:28 EDT 2011 i686
Default theme = matrix
gettext = enabled
Locale = en_US
Browser = Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 6.1; WOW64; rv:11.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/11.0
Rows in GalleryAccessMap table = 453
Rows in GalleryAccessSubscriberMap table = 4225
Rows in GalleryUser table = 7
Rows in GalleryItem table = 4214
Rows in GalleryAlbumItem table = 152
Rows in GalleryCacheMap table = 0
and my "videos" (which I cannot log into) are running the exact same version of Gallery (which should be on the same server as the "photos", if my hosting company has not made any changes)
I installed everything myself so I know how to FTP into the directory and make changes, or use my Hosting companies Control Panel myPHPadmin feature.
I just can't remember which is the best way to make password changes, in addition I forgot which file to change? Is it the .htaccess file or the config.php file?
Thank You, Sincerely,
bburnett

I was able to create a new password, but when I hit the final "Recover" button I received a
'500 Internal Server Error'
Error
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator,
and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

I guess the problem is coming from my hosting company since no changes have been made on my side in very long time. Would I be correct in saying this?
Can't I just FTP in and change my admin file/password?

the "misconfiguration" is probably a failure when gallery tries to send the email w/ the password reset information.
No

Seems there is a rash of these issues. I also had it recently and suspect perhaps something related to hashes changed with either one of the recent MySQL or PHP releases.
Anyway, drop the attached script into your gallery's "lib/support" folder, give it any name you like as long as it ends in ".php", navigate to the script location and follow the onscreen instructions to change your password.

Thank You Dayo. I will try this script, and just to be clear so I do not make a wrong step, do I change the extension of this file to .php using my FTP program or do I use my Hosting Company's Control Panel/myPHPAdmin feature?
In the meantime here is what the tech support people over at Start Logic had to say:
Thank you for your patience. I have checked the issue with Gallery2 video files at http://www.thebucketdatabase.com/videosbackup/main.php?g2_itemId=77 and noticed that the issue is due to the missing Flash module 'E2.swfmodule'. I have also checked the issue with the recover password issue and it appears that the issue was due to the Gallery user permissions. Also, it appears that the Gallery application is having issues with current plug-ins and modules. We are unable to investigate this issue without Administrative login details from our end.
Please log into the Gallery as Administrator and run the necessary upgrades from your end. Please note that Gallery2 is the third party application and our Support is limited in actual application related issues. I suggest that you to refer the Gallery 2 Codex page or their Support forum for further assistance in trouble shooting this issue. There is no server side issues for the functionality of Gallery 2 application and also all the Video and Audio files were present within the 'g2data/albums' directory.
If you have any further questions, please update the Support Console.
Sincerely,
Allan Ross

Issue your host is addressing: "the issue with Gallery2 video files"
Issue you have raised here: "I am locked out of G2.2 and unable to use the Password Recovery feature"
Upshot: No comment as there is no specific connection and if you have an issue with G2 video files, you should open a specific and different thread to deal with that issue so that we can focus on your login issue in this thread.

The problem arose from my audio and video clips no longer playing and I had not logged into Gallery in probably over 1 year, and when I did log in (many, many months ago) it was just to add a few video clips. I will start a new thread regarding the clips not playing once I gain access to the Gallery and provide my Hosting company with a username and pw.
Dayo
To change the .txt file to a .php file which is the best way to do this once I have uploaded it to the correct directory.

I looked at your new Multimedia module a few days ago, and I will attempt to install it once these current issues have been fixed. I want to restore this Gallery back to normal before I make any changes.
Thank You guys for all the help you have provided, Sincerely

500 Internal Server when using the script supplied by Dayo.
It says "Successfully Updated Password for User: Admin"
but then when I go to log in using the new password I get:
500 Internal Server

You may have a crashed DB table, or one that's over a limit.
using phpMyAdmin or similar tool, check your DB for any crashed tables and repair them.
Also you can truncate(empty) the following tables:
g2_EventLogMap, g2_FailedLoginsMap, g2_ImageBlockCacheMap, g2_SessionMap

I have not made any changes to this Gallery in over 1 year and suddenly it stopped working and I have unlimited disk space and bandwidth and I am using about 1% of server disk and bandwidth.
so it's an SQL Database/Table problem? How would I crash a table? My hosting company messed it up, therefore they should fix it right?

A 500 error can only be tracked down by sys admin, I was making a suggestion as to a possible reason and an easy fix.
I could care less.

Actually, a 500 error as you describe is most likely down to a problem in the PHP script.
What you need to follow the advice given to you as you posted earlier where the output says "More information about this error may be available in the server error log".
Most hosts provide access to these logs and what you need to do is to look at the logs (immediately after the error is raised) to see what the message there is. There would usually be a pointer to the specific line of code that is throwing the error.

Thanks Dayo and suprsidr for all your help, I sincerely appreciate it ,
my hosting company has now fixed the Admin log in issue. Now I have to track down why the .flv and .mp3 clips are not playing.

Glad to note that the log in issue has been resolved.
You should be upgrading to 2.3.2 whether it does or not.

the multimedia Module was written for 2.3.x
I don't remember the differences between 2.2.6 and 2.3.1 enough to advise.
You could just try it.
The error your host pointed out was E2.swf was missing from gallery2/modules/flashvideo/lib/
you can re-download that from my site, but [i]I'd try the multimedia module first as it replaces both my flashVideo and mp3Audio modules (less is better)

Dayo;
I tried upgrading to 2.3 when it was first released, but my hosting company server is pile of dog crap, and it failed.
"Everything" fails on these servers.
suprsidr;
I am rebuilding everything in a few months with Blue Host.com and I will install your spiffy Multimedia Player then
I had 2 issues here and none of them were caused by me or Gallery's script.
1. My audio (mp3) and video clips (flv) would not play, due to the "Modules" not being visible. This was changed by my hosting company. Once I gained Admin access I was able to make these Modules visible, and magically they play fine.
2. I was locked out due to my hosting company making stupid changes on their end, and even the script that Dayo supplied to me in this thread did not work. I'm not sure what changes the Engineers made to their servers or my site (SQL/DB tables), but they installed/initialized the 2.3 upgrade and tried to get me to complete the upgrade process.
Long story short, my hosting company completed the upgrade process to 2.3
Gallery URL = http://www.thebucketdatabase.com/videos/main.php
Gallery version = 2.3 core 1.3.0
I then used the script supplied to me in this thread by Dayo, and I was able to gain Admin access, and then I made the modules "visible".
Life is good. Thanks for all your help. It is sincerely appreciated.
