Error in first installation

I've installed Gallery3, just downloaded from here, in an hosting space.
After the installation I've an 500 Internal Server Error.
In FAQ is written:
edit your php.ini file and set "short_open_tag" to 1
In my php.ini the value is "On" and presume that there a mistake in FAQ and that 1=On

Always in FAQ is reported a modify to Apache configuration file with <Location "/gallery3/">
Obviously I can modify only .htaccess and I wish to know what is /gallery3/? It's a pathname?
I've installed G3 in:
MySubdomain.MyDomain.it/photo-video

I need help because my hosting provider doesn't support me.

The error is about short open tags?

I cannot do login.
After the installation I just see Internal server error.
For these cases in the FAQ there are those 2 suggestions

What does the Apache error logs say?
If you don't have access to them or your host will not help there is little we can do.
How about a phpinfo link?
FAQ: How do I create a phpinfo page?
