Have had this problem for two days now - at my wits' end... (warning: I am not PHP savvy, just expect things to work)

I had installed Gallery2 and thought it would be good to upgrade to 2.3.2 but that stopped at the Core Module upgrade stage. After much gnashing of teeth, decided to manually install, but it all ended with the same result.

So I figured a complete install of Gallery3 would be the go... again, no joy.

Next I installed Gallery3 with Fantastico and all the files uploaded (to a directory I called gallery33) - even found I had a log file in var directory (although the only file it contains is .htaccess).

But, do think it would work? - whenever I try to go the directory via the web browser - I get the 500 screen.

If I access the index page or installer directory via FTP, it will ask me for the user/password authentication and then up comes the blank page. Click on "view source" and the code's there but no chance of seeing the install panel.

The CPanel log (see below) says file does not exist - but using Filezilla... it is there!

What am I doing wrong? (It is me, right???)

Do you have access to the Apache error logs?
The error says

Quote:
Please forward this error screen to venus.webcity.com.au's WebMaster.

Did you try them to see if they can diagnose the error?

Dave

Hi Dave, thanks... found another error message that said public_html was writable (not sure how that happened... might have been during the fantastico install). Anyway changed it back to 755 and I could access the install panel on the manual install I had done earlier.... and Gallery3 is up and running! :)
