Hello -

I think it would be helpful to have a way for users here to be able to rate themes and modules in terms of stabilty. Some themes and mods are very well tended by their authors, others have been abandoned, and most are somewhere in between.

This rating system is not about good or bad, as that is just a matter of opinion, nor do the ratings mean "good developer" or "bad developer". People sometimes have time to add things, sometimes they don't.

Instead, the ratings would be a way for people to know what they are getting into when they download something. Core modules would always have top ratings, since they have to, and so would any others as long as they were keeping up with the core upgrades.

Helpful fields in these ratings would be :
1. What version of Gallery it was last reported working on. (Not everyone is using or wants the lastest core)
2. When was the theme/module's files last updated?
3. Is the developer still active? (And, if its easy to do, include the date of the developer's last post.)
4. Does the theme or module have unresolved issues? (with a link to the forum post(s)that discuss it.)

This would help people using Gallery make informed decisions when downloading something, and be able to assess their risk when they download. It would help them have accurate expectations when they download something. If it breaks, and they know it hasn't been updated since Kodak Instamatics were the rage, they would have already known before hand that this could happen, and it won't be fixed.

I like this idea as well. It would be nice to have it implemented, but I'm unsure how.

A "star" system like the one being used for wordpress is a simple and usable way for users to have an easy overview. Then a more extensive description could be added if necessary.

The star system you suggest might be nice for an "at a glance" view, but I think including the specifics that created the star is essential in helping people make informed decisions about including a module.
