Is Gallery3 ready for everyday use?

Is Gallery3 really ready for everyday use? I've installed it and spent considerable time with the configuration just to get it working, but it doesn't seem right. I can't access the photo folder on the same server that Gallery is installed on (my own LAN, not a hosting service). It has taken hours of time and research just to gather enough information to get a working install.

This is installed on Fedora 17 with Apache, PHP and MySql.

Gallery2, on the other hand, seems to be working perfectly on the same computer.

Are there any installation documents concerning how to install for various Linux releases, Fedora, Debian, CentOS, etc?
