[GALLERY TEAM] Bug in 1.4.1RC2 - undefined function: _()

Hi all!

We are aware of the bug that in some cases render 1.4.1-RC2 unusable on some systems. As far as we can tell it only effects those of you using a PHP version without gettext support, but this is inconfirmed at this point.

As a temporary workaround, try out Joans new util.php attachment here: http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=10869#49056

We are working on this at the moment, so please subscribe to this thread as we will use it for announcing any fixes and progress on this.

OK, we now have what I believe is the definitive fix, thanks to Glen Starrett and Jens.

Anyone with this problem, please replace your util.php with this version.

Reports on success (or - please, no! - failure) would be appreciated.

FWIW,

I have been trying to install Gallery for a while now. This morning, I installed RC2, and thinking to eliminate my problems, I put the util.php file directly above in before even running setup.

When I ran setup, I got nothing. A blank screen.

When I replaced util.php with the one that camne with RC2, I got to the setup screens just fine. I have not yet finished installation, but thought you should know.

The first screen ofd the setup tells me I do not have GNU gettext installed.

Me again,

I finished installation, and it is no good. This is with the original util.php. I get only a partial load of my gallery main page, as detailed in this thread elsewhere:

If I replace original util.php with the new util.php, when i load the gallery, I get absolutely nothing. Just a blank page. Thought you should know.

Any help on that other matter (in the other thread) would be appreciated.

It worked for me! First I got only blank page and an error in HTML code (I didn't copy it, sorry, but it was something like that: Fatal error! Call to undefined function: _() in /.../.../..... on line 16), but after replacing util.php file my gallery showed up.

malwinka, good to hear. It fixed Danny's problem too. So hopefully RC3 is released soon . . . ..

Well, I replaced util.php, reran config wizard, but I am still getting the same Fatal error: Call to undefined function: _() in /home/felix/public_html/gallery/classes/Album.php on line 42

Still notta! I have tried a total of 8 times to install this, and nothing works, not even the util.php patch. I have tried 4 times with a fresh install and 4 times doing updates and nothing. I constantly get a blank screen. Anyone else still getting this blank screen even after the patch?

Woo Hoo, Finally after 10 tries, I got it to work! It's best to run the CONFIG, with the old util.php file, then when that is complete, and you are brought to the screen that gives you the link to your gallery to quickly upload and replace the old util with the new one, then click on the gallery link! (that is after you run all the chmods)!

Some people have trouble uncompress that zip file, so here it is plain text. Just rename it util.php.
