migrate then upgrade?

I need to migrate my gallery v2.2.1 to a new webserver. This seems like an opportune moment to upgrade to gallery 3.
I really don't want to upgrade on the old one in case it breaks but I couldn't find a migrate v2.2.1 - is there one?

G2 to G3 is not a upgrade. You import data from G2 to G3.
The G2 must be operational on the same server as G3. From the docs: For best results, update your Gallery 2 install to version 2.3.1.

You have to make the decision to go to G3 or not but either way you should upgrade your G2 install.
