I have just installed Gallery 3.0.4 using the Softaculous Apps Installer which reported a successful instal but it reports a 500 Internal Server Error when I try to access the site which I copy below

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator,

and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Any help/advice would be appreciated.

DO NOT USE Softaculous Apps Installer we have no control how they are doing this and they are likely not doing it right.

I have already tried a manual installation which claimed to be successful only to then report the same error message but thanks for that. I will give it another go before looking for a 4th floor window..

500 Internal Server Errors are only logged server side, we could only guess - check your server's logs or ask your host.
Check http://codex.galleryproject.org/Gallery3:User_guide:Gallery3:Troubleshooting
and http://codex.galleryproject.org/Gallery3:FAQ#Troubleshooting
and also http://codex.galleryproject.org/Gallery3:Host_specific_issues

short_open_tag = on in php is required to run gallery3 - this is something those crappy Softaculous Apps Installers should know.

I've installed gallery successfully on other websites but now can only get an error message when trying to access the login page at http://ccepotomac/NOVA

After installation via iPower, the login website was given as www.ccepotomac.org/NOVA/ which took me to the NOVA home page, NOT the Gallery as expected.
Here's the error message I encountered:

The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

I'm expecting a URL that looks like this: http://ccepotomac/NOVA/Gallery/index.php

What's up?

We have zero control over how one-click installers do their thing and as a result most fail. Try a manual install:

I installed Gallery 3 from the iPower website. I use Fetch sometimes as a backup and It looks like everything is in place and ready to go. When I try the login link I get this message:

Quote:
The server encountered an unexpected condition which prevented it from fulfilling the request.
The script had an error or it did not produce any output. If there was an error, you should be able to see it in the error log.

If I put in the url: www.ccepotomac.org/Gallery/index.php I get a 500 Internal Server Error - Page Not found. I KNOW IT'S THERE! because I can see it in the Fetch window.

Help Please!

Brent

Try a manual install as i suggested earlier or ask your host why the installer does not work that they supplied for you.
