I try the 1.4.1 RC2 version

I create a new album with some subalbum. So then I go in this album I cannot see the link for top level album list like in "normal" album.

I think this feature is usefull.

Ohh, of course, the new version of gallery it's great!!

That is still there. Make sure the "Gallery Link" option in config. wizard is set to "yes" and you can fix your existing album from the properties menu.
