Am I supposed to create a new MySQL database for Gallery 3 before I try to install or does the installation script do that for me?
The initial screen is asking for database, user, password. I don't think I have a MySQL root password provided from my hosting company. I have a Gallery 2 database - but I don't believe I should overwrite that database with Gallery 3 - especially if I want to recover albums and photos from that for Galley 3.
thanks

Just as when you installed G2 you were required to already have a DB created and supply uname/pass
G3 uses a different table prefix
-s

Thanks, creating a new database solved my problem. Maybe the welcome screen or instructions should say to create a new database first.
Now I justneed to learn the new Gallery 3. Hopefully the import tool works to move my content from the Gallery 2 database.
