I'm looking to implement Gallery3 to use as a photo sharing archive. I have about 1TB of photos that I'd start out with and it would grow over time.

Does anyone have experience using Gallery with an archive this large?

Our plan is to run Gallery on a regular web server (GoDaddy, Network Solutions, etc) and store the photos on something like like Google Drive or Amazon. Does anyone have any insight on something of the sort?

The Amazon S3 module works great.

GoDaddy, Network Solutions

no experience with those as a host. As a registrar yes but as a host I think you might have better options.

As a data point, I have one G3 gallery with -just about- 1.2TB of images/video (~62000) on a Dell PE2950 dual xeon 3.3ghz w/ 32g ram and it has absolutely zero problems loading them up expeditiously!

As Dave stated above, I think there are much better solutions/providers than the run-of-the-mill registrar will provide you. Plus, you'll probably have much more flexibility on server hardware/software specs.
