Upgrading from Gallery 2 to Gallery 3 question

Hi all,

So I feel like it's time to move from 2 to 3. Here is what I currently have. I have my entire raw image collection, all 600GB of it or so, indexed by G2. Obviously, since it never modified original images, I felt safe pointing directly to the collection - I never really performed many edits anyway. I added tags, GPS data and so on, but otherwise kept the collection the same with the exception of a few rotations.

I am reading the upgrade notes, and .CR2 files are no longer supported (I guess there is probably a plugin out there) and some movie formats have been dropped. I am wondering whether I should scrap my G2 install (figuratively speaking), start afresh with G3 and *COPY* all my images elsewhere, with the assumption that I will, going forward, never point to my real collection and basically maintain two? Or should I install the keeporiginal mod and just import my existing collection?

Also, does G3 create a separate directory with thumbnails and resizes that get shown, like G2 did, or does it put them into the same directories as the originals? I.e. if I continue pointing to my full collection, will I find a bunch of junk in there eventually?

Thanks!

Yes, thumbnails and resizes are in separate G3 folders.

How you move forward is more a personal decision. I would advise that you leave G2 in place while building a totally new G3 from scratch, play with it, and make a decision from there.
