Is it possible to convert images externally?
I run Gallery3 on a Qnap with a slooow CPU. So the upload/conversion takes ages (about 3min per 2 MB image).
Since I want to move my old gallery of some 10k pics, this is clearly not doable in any reasonable time frame.
So I wonder, is it possible to pre-convert the images on a faster machine, upload images to proper directories (main images and mid-sized ones certainly, thumbnail generation will probably be reasonably fast) and then ask gallery to "register" them properly (and optionally generate thumbnails).
The questions:
1. is the above workflow possible?
2. is it possible to trigger Gallery3 to only create thumbnails (if these are made from mid-sized images, then it should be reasonably quick)?
Thanks in advance!

What comes to mind is the server add module, however, there isn't much conversion being done, other than the thumbnail and the resize.

Well the thumbnail and resize ARE the problem (slow), so is it possible to do them elsewhere?
Or at least have a scheduled add which will run from cron, not depend on having Gallery open in browser for hours on end?

I guess you could add a fake (small) item and then edit the DB manually setting the proper size then uploading the real size you want to the /var/albums resize and thumbs. A lot of work, that could be eliminated by using a web hosting service for a little bit of money.
Perhaps Gallery is not the product you are after on the hardware you chose.
