Hi everyone,

I've an issue regarding to recover my gallery. Here's my data of my new installation:

Gallery-Version = 2.3.2 Kern 1.3.0.2
API = Core 7.54, Modul 3.9, Motiv 2.6, Eingebettet 1.5
PHP-Version = 5.4.4-15 apache2handler
Webserver = Apache/2.2.22 (Debian)
Database = mysqli 5.5.31-1, lock.system=flock
Activated toolkits = ArchiveUpload, Dcraw, Exif, Ffmpeg, Getid3, ImageMagick, LinkItemToolkit, NetPBM, SquareThumb, Thumbnail, Gd
Operating system = Linux geordi 3.2.0-4-686-pae #1 SMP Debian 3.2.46-1 i686
Browser = Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Linux i686; rv:10.0.12) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/10.0.12 Iceweasel/10.0.12

Now to my issue:
My old hard drive got a defect and I had to do a fresh install on my system with a new hard drive. What I have from my old installation is the xml-backup file and the old g2data directory structure. I don't have a database dump because I thought that the xml would be enough to restore.

I've read the faq "How can I export data from one G2 installation and import it to another?". But unfortunally all descriptions need a database dump.

Then I found the posting http://galleryproject.org/node/86314#comment-303066 and tried to restore using the support page http://localhost/gallery2/lib/support/index.php. So I copied the albums to my fresh g2data folder and copied the old backup file into the backups directory. When I started the import after selecting my xml file the import routine runs for less than a minute and told me "Database Import Completed Successfully.". But when I looked on my gallery no pictures and albums were visible. Looking into my apache logfiles I can see that I did an import in access.log but the error.log doesn't show messages.

Now I've some questions:

Can someone tell me what went wrong? Where can I look for error messages?

When I have to do a simple import of my photo folders and loose all my comments in the albums: How do I have to read the xml-backup file to restore the comments manually? It would be much work to do but it's a part of our familys memories...

Or something completely different: Does the xml-import in version 3 work? If yes: Is a script available to convert the version-2-xml into a version-3-xml?

Many thanks in advance and
best regards from Germany
Bifo

Hi suprsidr,

many thanks for your help. At this time I've problems with my apache because it was upgraded to 2.4.4 and my symlink to the gallery directory is not working. I'll test your script and will reply as soon as I can.

Best Regards
