I have 14Gb of photos in a Gallery3 gallery, and now got the info that about half of them exist with a lot more tags in them on another server.

Can I just overwrite the original sized images in the gallery var/albums folder and run the maintenance functions after this, or do I need to delete the whole gallery and then Add all photos again trough Gallery?

And --- propably not but I'll ask anyhow: If I just add a bunch of completely new photos to the var/albums folder by mistake, does any maintenance tool add these to the gallery database & creathe thumbs of them?

Cheers Ben

No. There is a couple of modules to help with that.

No neither seem to work.

- So there is logical way to replace, say, IMG001.jpg with IMG001.jpg as Gallery3 automatically creates a IMG001(01).jpg i.e. a duplicate if I upload or do a server add. If replacing the old image with a 3rd part file manager/ftp, there is no way to get Gallety to re-check image tags aso.

- Deleting the whole gallery and uploading the photos again is no option, as the adding of photos was a weeks job as all ways to upload more than a few photos at a time overloads the server (and I tried all configurations I could think of). Server add does not help really, because it seem like the Gallery3 logic is that I have to place the 14Gb of photos in one folder, from which Gallery3 moves the files, and I am not simply able to get over 30Gb of server space. Plus server add also overloads the server.

So I am kind of stuck if I want to continue using Gallery3? I have not found any modules helping me, as the only one related that I have found is the duplicate checker and it only finds duplicates, no help with where they are or how to get rid of them when the questions is about MANY pictures.

Cheers Ben

Why not upload the proper images with tags in the first place?
Did you manually replace the item in the /var/albums directory?
What steps did you try?

That is by design. If we overwrote images with the same name we would have more complaints.

How is that our issue? Most host have some form of "unlimited".
Upload some then remove the copies. Upload some more.

Perhaps http://codex.galleryproject.org/Gallery3:Modules:folder_sync is what you are really after?

Sorry Dave, I don't mean that ANY of this is your issue, I am just showing very self-focused frustration over the problem with handling this amount of images. And very thankful for you trying to help!

(The gallery I try to handle is the picture database / bank of a large organisation, and many different people tag and store images before they get into the 'database' (gallery3), what I am now tying to find a solution for is the fact that about 4000 images with the size of 4-8Mb/image have gotten more tags on a local hard disk than the ones I imported into Gallery3, and now I cannot find a way to get the Gallery3 photos replaced with the ones with all the needed tags).

I'll have a look at Folder_sync, thanks for the hint!

Do you or anyone else have an idea why the server overloads even if I allow only one simultaneous upload? I have a 100Mb upload connection and anything but splitting the upload/import into hundreds of tiny packages makes the server master sweat (server load >12.5 7CPUs). I have tried all php.ini settings that I have found in Gallery3 forums and elsewhere, and it is a pretty tough server in other aspects.

Cheers Ben
