What permissions are needed to upload pictures?

I installed Gallery3 yesterday and set up a couple albums and uploaded a handful of pictures.

Then I had trouble with FTP and changed some folder ownership.

Today, I can't upload pictures. I keep getting "Unable to process this photo".

I have confirmed that PHP runs as www-data. The entire albums folder and subfolders belong both to the user www-data and the group www-data. albums is running 777 permissions. uploads is running 755 permissions.

What am I overlooking?

Well, no more error message.

gallery3/var/tmp needed to belong to www-data.

But ... the pictures still aren't visible. They're in the albums/Album1/Album2 folder ... but not visible on the site.

Did you ftp the images up? If so, gallery doesn't quite work that way.

Have you tried adding an image through the gallery 'add an image' option? Does it show after you made the permission corrections?

Have you tried running the admin/fix your gallery task?
