OK

So years ago I had Gallery 1 and upgraded that to Gallery 2. As I recall that was a pretty significant challenge as the directory system for pics inside individual albums was different and we had to run a script to rewrite all the existing urls linked to my Forum to get the older pics to work. (I hope I worded that right and that it makes sense)

So now here we are a few years later and I am looking at upgrading from 2.3 to 3..... I have been told that it will not work because of the workaround we had to do when we upgraded to Gallery 2???

This is from the Sys info

Gallery version = 2.3 core 1.3.0
API = Core 7.54, Module 3.9, Theme 2.6, Embed 1.5
PHP version = 5.4.22 cgi-fcgi

My Forum has thousands of pics from the Gallery loaded into it. Going back and redoing all those urls in every one of 535,000 plus posts in the forum is not an option.

The Gallery is pretty big with 62,771 Files, 2,122 Folders and 8.6 gig of data.

So I am trying to figure out a course of action here to accomplish the upgrade and not totally screw up all the existing photos linked.

Any ideas or thoughts or corrections are welcome!!

Tia

Understand that Gallery 3 is not actually an 'upgrade' but really a different product.

Gallery 2 is not deprecated, and is still in full production.

My advice is to take a close look at what G3 does, and it's accompanying modules and ENSURE that this is the route you want to take. Many of G2's functionality, customization, and module availability are NOT available in G3.

Once you decide, if the route is G3, then there is a G2 Import module available for G3, and the best advise would be to try an import using this module and see what the results are. Doing this should not affect your current G2 install.
