User and admin access

Hi all,

I have just started to use Gallery on a Zyxel NSA320, and I am trying to configure it. I want my photos to be viewable by administrator (admin), and by users with account only. In other words, it is necessary to be logged in to views the photos, and the wed address is not enough.

So I created a group ('Photo_Access') where there is 'admin' and 'reguser' (the only registered user). In the permission, I ticked only this group, especially not the built-in group called 'Everybody'. A login is necessary indeed, but the photos are not visible! The only way to see the photos is to also open the permission to the group 'Everybody'. But in this case, no login is necessary to see the photos. It is either one extreme or another...

I tried to see some tutorials and looked at this forum, but I didn't find anything related to this issue...

I pointed the 'server add' to where the photos are.

Any ideas? On such a common and easy thing, I guess I am not the first one to see this issue...

Thanks a lot in advance.

JC

Informations:
- I don't have this page: "Site Admin -> Maintenance -> System information"
- Gallery version: 3.0.4 (Ricochet)
- PHP version (e.g. 5.1.6): I don't know where to look at to get this
- PHPInfo Link (see FAQ): I don't have this page: "Site Admin -> Maintenance -> System information"
- Webserver (e.g. Apache 1.3.33): I don't know where to look at to get this
- Database (e.g. MySql 5.0.32): I don't know where to look at to get this
- Activated toolkits (e.g. NetPbm, GD): I think I didn't have anything activated
- Operating system (e.g. Linux): ZyNOS, which I think is Linux-based
- Browser (e.g. Firefox 2.0): Chrome (this is what I presently use to type this message and to access Gallery on my NSA320)

Sorry I am a newbie and I don't know much about it...

There is an inbuilt group called "Registered Users" which you should probably use for this purpose.

I did, but I can't drag any other user than admin.

Thanks Dave. I used his link already, but still, if admin has access to the photos, anyone has, even without login in. If I block the access the 'everybody', then admin doesn't have access to the photos.

I will still try again, just in case I made it wrong...

Regards,
JC

If it did not work there would be lots of threads that say it does not work.

Hi Dave,

I tried again, even following the group name 'group', and the group member name 'groupmember', and I still have the same issue. Could it be because I use gallery on a Zyxel NAS, with OS Zynos?

I will post something on Zyxel forum, just in case.

Regards,
JC

Unlikely but I guess its possible. You mentioned in your first post you are using v3.0.4 so I'd start by upgrading that to the latest version (3.0.9 I believe). There was a thread about configuring permissions from a user called "tale" here a week or so ago. It might be worthwhile reading through that one as well since your case should be a simpler version of that thread.

I think you should probably also be checking out why you can't use the "Registered Users" group. At least when you create a user, they will automatically appear in the group. If you created the group "group", you are going to have to manually add new users into it at the time of creation.

Thanks.

I would like to update to latest release 3.0.9, but I am a newbie and I don't know how to do it... :-( I downloaded the zip file, extracted it, but I didn't find what to do in tutorials or anything. I guess it is with some commands in a terminal window? I have Putty, and I am able to connect to my NAS like if it was a standard Linux I guess.

It is the first time I do that, and I have even never installed anything with command lines.

Thx

I pull from Git so can't really help with upgrading, but check the links in this page for a starting point: http://galleryproject.org/gallery_3_0_9

Thanks for the link. But it mentionned a folder named 'var'. I don't have it, probably because I am using a Zyxel NAS, which has something specific here. I will try with the Zyxel community, hopefully someone had the same issue.
Thx anyway.
