Gallery Resource Usage

Does anyone have any idea why Gallery's resource usage would have this weird graph (24 hour graph) where it steadily climbs up up up and then crashes way down all at once? Ideally I'm supposed to keep the usage below that red line and clearly sometimes that's possible, but I can't figure out what is causing these odd spikes and dips. (Graph attached) FWIW It does this even on days with minimal activity to the site and me doing nothing as far as adding photos or the like. Just days where it's just sitting there. Thanks! How can you be certain it is G2's usage & G2 only the graph is tracking?

Because it counts php/sql processes (I think) and gallery is my only database. Plus I only have about a 6 page very minimal site besides the gallery. Also I never went over resources until I installed the gallery and then suddenly went from about 30% to 800%.

Event Log fwiw. Some of this seems very strange to me and I had never seen it prior to coming to this host (not blaming the host as I know it could be my install or whatever).

Ok. I suppose the question is that of what exactly the percentages stand for.
My gut feel is that you are with a cheap host with highly leveraged servers.
I am afraid, but there is nothing we can do for you here.
Sorry.

% of CPU Usage apparently. Sadly no actual processes numbers.
It's In Motion. Of any host I would think that would be one you could help with.

Difficult. Only thing I can think of is that it could be a bot/crawler hitting the site at specific times and as your site is fairly large and on a limited shared hosting plan, this might be enough to send the percentages soaring.
You could look into a ban on all or most bots.
I will ban them all for a while first to see if it makes a difference. See http://www.robotstxt.org/faq/prevent.html.
Note though that rogue bots just ignore the robots.txt file but it will be a start.
Bear in mind that this is just a stab in the dark.
