An off the wall suggestion: generating an RSS feed

I currently run a Postnuke/Gallery/PHPWiki site (eggwan.com if anyone wants a look. Warning: adult language) and I'm wrestling with how to make the entry pages reflect the dynamics going on under the site. Ideally, I'd like a "last five changes in the gallery" page integrated into a Postnuke sideblock. I was pondering how this could be done and it seems to be that, although it sounds rather whacky, what would be really nice is for Gallery to generate an RSS feed with its recent changes in. Sort of like a RecentChanges wiki page. This isn't an easy piece of design, I know; for a start, either you'd have to walk the entire tree looking for changes, or hooks would have to be placed over a bunch of places in the code to track the changes into a central registry. And I'm not 100% sure what the RSS would look like; for example, ten pictures added into a new gallery would probably have to be one change, not 11. So this isn't straightforward and in fact, it may not be all that possible. But nevertheless it seems to me a neat way to solve the problem of updating folks when the gallery changes, and I'm sure I'm not the only person with a multi-user gallery who finds that an issue. I'd like to have some discussion about it here, and if it's positive I'll file a feature request on Sourceforge. If I get some more free time (admittedly unlikely), maybe I'll even check G2 out of CVS and have a gander at the source. What do people think? |

A link for you (found using the search function at the top of the page):
pbyjp's rss feed solution/hack
It may or may not work with the current version of Gallery, but worth a looksee.
