Hi Folks,

I updated my mod for PostNuke of Bharats random block.

The new version 0.41 you can get <!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://www.holzapfel-online.de/modules.php?op=modload&name=Downloads&file=index&req=getit&lid=8" TARGET="_blank">here</A><!-- BBCode End -->.

The main enhancement is the possibility to resize the thumb which is displayed by the block.

Did this correct the problem of inflating the user counts?

---edit--- Nevermind, I just tested it on my site and it works great! Good job.

It works great in my gallery, with postnuke, but there si a big problem, as long as the random block works my gallery does not work anymore displaying this error message :

Quote:
Fatal error: Cannot redeclare fs_copy() (previously declared in f:siteinternetinflightpicturemodulesGalleryplatformfs_win32.php:22) in f:siteinternetinflightpicturemodulesgalleryplatformfs_win32.php on line 22

IS there a solution to get them both working together ?

I love the new RandomImage block! Works great in my PostNuke site. I didn't want the image to update everytime the page refreshed because some of my target users connect via 56k modems. To that end I modified the SRAND with the following code (pulled directly off the PHP.NET WWW site under the SRAND discussions.)

<!-- BBCode Start --><TABLE BORDER=0 ALIGN=CENTER WIDTH=85%><TR><TD><font class="pn-sub">Code:</font><HR></TD></TR><TR><TD><FONT class="pn-sub"><PRE>$tm = time();
$today = mktime(0, 0, 0, (int)date("n", $tm), (int)date("j", $tm), (int)date("Y", $tm));
srand($today / pi());
</TD></TR></TABLE><!-- BBCode End -->

This code should cause the image to change once a day rather than with each page refresh.

joerg,

The block works great. Just two issues specifically on my site.

1. I have two galleries running under the same Postnuke serving two different groups of members (because Gallery doesn't have group permission until G2). The two gallery directories are namely /gallery/ and /galleryI/ respetively.

I first tried to run it on /galleryI/pnblocks/ with galleryI inserted on file, failed to find the block on "add block" page. Then I move /pnblocks/with file to /gallery/pnblocks/, it works well with links and photos of /galleryI/ (as the file is configured to get data from galleryI.

So my question is how do I get both galleries to run your random block.

2. The "Permissions" system is still not working, on yours and all previous random block verisons. My junior members are blocked to see quite a lot of things including one of the two galleries. I am able to set group permissions to all other PN components as per my wish, only failing on this random block. Any idea why?

Thank you for your attention. Running a site with over 3000 photos your block is essential for the site to be meaningful :smile:

Hi

Thanks for the RandomBlock. It's really nice!

Is there a way to show 2 images instead of just 1?

Many thanks, again. :smile:

Hi,

maybe this thread helps you out.

<!-- BBCode Start --><A HREF="http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=modload&amp;name=phpBB_14&amp;file=index&amp;action=viewtopic&amp;topic=2624&amp;6" TARGET="_blank">http://gallery.menalto.com/modules.php?op=modload&amp;name=phpBB_14&amp;file=index&amp;action=viewtopic&amp;topic=2624&amp;6</A><!-- BBCode End -->

As an alternative you can get the latest version of gallery from cvs. In that version this issue is fixed.

Regards
Jörg

trumped my problem..

ahh.. never mind above post (again) was missing a slash after "gallery" in the script. However. My new problem is that the page will not load, it just gets stuck on index.php when I go to my site with the block enabled. (page loads as a blank white page, no error message..)

Any ideas as to what could fix this?

thanks!

I have fixed the following issues with the Gallery random block for Postnuke:

1) Only pictures are displayed which "everybody" is allowed to see.

2) The cache is correctly re-written whether you are logged in as admin or as regular user (previously "loggedin" was treated as "everybody" when the cache was re-written during the login time of an admin user)

3) The album highlights are no longer treated as separate pictures, only pictures inside albums are considered in the random selection.

4) The random selection is uniform random. Previously, pictures after hidden pictures and highlighted album pictures have been displayed more often.

To get the modified block working immediately, you also have to delete the old cache file
"block-random.cache" in the albums directory.

The modified Gallery Random Block is for download at http://rbachl.homeip.net
It works for me, no guarantee that it works in all environments, since I am a
beginner with Postnuke, Gallery and PHP.

It is also possible to instantiate the block several times at the same Website.
I have not seen any problems with this.

It would be really nice if somebody could add any fixes that may be required to have
this block function together with the "last updated" block in Postnuke.

here's a crude way that works in both the original and modified version of random block.

near the very bottom, you'll see the lines:
if ($numPhotos > 0) {
$cache[$name] = $numPhotos;
}

in function: scanAlbums

simply surround this w/ statments to run this or not based on album name. for instance, i've done:

			  /* Who Dah? modified - added the next if statement to disclude */
        /* certain albums that I don't want displayed in the random block. */
        if ($name != "TAMugz" and $name != "TAarT" and $name != "HAoPLAN2001") {
	        if ($numPhotos > 0) {$cache[$name] = $numPhotos;}
        }

this means that galleries named TAMugz, TAart, and HAoPLAN2001 will NOT be included in the random block cache file. and as i don't read this forum much, i'll just post the entire function so i don't 'leave ya hanging'. it's not the most elegant way, but it works, and maybe one of ya will make more of the knowledge:

function scanAlbums() {
    global $cache;
    global $gallery;

    $cache = array();
    $everybody = $gallery->userDB->getEverybody();
    $albumDB = new AlbumDB();
    foreach ($albumDB->albumList as $tmpAlbum) {
	    if ($everybody->canReadAlbum($tmpAlbum)) {
	      $seeHidden = $everybody->canWriteToAlbum($tmpAlbum);
	      $numPhotos = $tmpAlbum->numPhotos($seeHidden);
	      $name = $tmpAlbum->fields["name"];
			  /* Who Dah? modified - added the next if statement to disclude */
        /* certain albums that I don't want displayed in the random block. */
        if ($name != "TAMugz" and $name != "TAarT" and $name != "HAoPLAN2001") {
	        if ($numPhotos > 0) {$cache[$name] = $numPhotos;}
        }
	    }
    }
}

conversly, if you ONLY wanted a couple albums to show, instead of saying:

$name != "TAMugz"

you could say:

$name == "TAMugz"

and then the cache file would ONLY contain pics from the gallery TAMugz.

enjoy!

Anybody know how to grab & display the caption for the picture in the RandomBlock? That would be the icing on the cake!

Thanks for the hard work on your block. I'm using it in a stand-alone website.. got out of the Nuke wars last year after the meltdown.

Y'all have a great weekend!

Great work on this block - just what was missing to make Gallery perfect.
Howeber, I've noted one problem with the block:

It happens when the function chooseAlbum() in the gallery_random.php returns an album as $album that contains nested albums and the function choosePhoto($album) then gets a thumbnail as $index that refers to a nested album.

The gallery_random block then shows the thumbnail for the nested album correctly but when the thumbnail is clicked in the gallery_random block, the link is invalid and returns the following error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function on a non-object in /posnuke_dir/modules/gallery/view_photo.php on line 80

postnuke_dir is the path to my postnuke installation.

Usually, clicking on the thumbnail would open the photo in the Gallery, but that doesn't work when the randomly picked thumbnail refers to a nested album.

Jörg: I've posted this as a comment on your site also:
http://www.holzapfel-online.de/modules.php?op=modload&name=News&file=article&sid=23&mode=thread&order=0&thold=0
But since it might be of general interest, I decided to leave a post here alse.

I haven't been able to sort it out myself, since I couldn't find a way to determing if a thumbnail referred to a photo or a nested gallery (except for the leading Album: tag but that would be too nasty coding to check for that).
Hope someone else can help. The gallery block is running on my site on http://www.skyttegaard.com/postnuke/index.php

It may take a number of refreshes to make the block come up with a thumbnail from a nested album - when it happens, only the album line is shown below the picture and then the error occurs when clicking the picture - not the text link to the album.

Seems the download link is broken at http://rbachl.homeip.net - Does anyone have a copy of the mentioned version of random_block?
I really have a problem with the third item in the list above.

Looks like the random block does not work with the newest version v1.4-RC2 of Gallery. Any news on when there will be a fix? Till then I guess I'll go without rather than go back.

:roll:

as per one of the last posts, this does not work with the 1.4 rc2 of Gallery. I installed it and get the following error: -

Your Gallery configuration was created using the config wizard from an older version of Gallery. It is out of date. Please re-run the configuration wizard!In a shell do this:

Unix with shell access
% cd /path/to/your/gallery
% sh ./configure.sh

Unix with FTP access
ftp> chmod 777 .htaccess
ftp> chmod 777 config.php
ftp> chmod 755 setup

Windows
C:\> cd \path\to\your\gallery
C:\> configure.bat

Then launch the configuration wizard If you experience problems, you should seek help on the Gallery Help Page

The only way to cure this is to delete the block using ftp then go back to your blocks menu and delete it there.

Any idea when this will work with the latest version of Gallery.

AND

Isn't it about time that the producers of Gallery produced a block that is included with each release - it would appear that this is a HUGE issue judging by the posts here.

We have plans to re-work the way Gallery saves album information that will make integrating random blocks, etc. simpler. However, we have many more features, etc. that are going to be worked on before this. It will be a little while before the random block ships with Gallery, but it *is* on the agenda.

Sounds related to what you say you fixed according to the link. Do you have a top-ten block or multiple random blocks? What are you running for PostNuke?

The newest download on his site - listed as "latest source" works well.

For PN users - the only error I could find is =

Change line 62 to say "postnuke" instead of "nuke"

I had the same issue as David with an older version of the random block. I deleted the old file - which immediately brough my site back up - and then to restore the random block - I downloaded the most current source file from Joerg.

Hi

Thanks, have got the latest code from Juerg, and the block works, but shows a weird error message:

Warning: mysql_fetch_row(): supplied argument is not a valid MySQL result resource in /home/bulmanp/public_html/envolution/modules/gallery/classes/database/mysql/Database.php on line 37

I've tried to go in and hack, but the PHP code isn't using a mysql_fetch_row arugument directly. Any ideas?

You haven't updated your gallery_random.php file. Change $GALLERY_EMBEDDED_INSIDE = "nuke"; to $GALLERY_EMBEDDED_INSIDE = "postnuke";

Ahh, missed that :o

Thanks, have done, and now don't get error message.

Have another problem! Now when I click through to the gallery module, instead of staying within the centre frame it takes over the whole page.

QuaziModem, thanks for the URL via PM.

What random block are you using? If you aren't already, use Joerg's latest then modify the embeded type to be postnuke rather than the default nuke. See the gallery_random.php file.

For the life of me, I cannot remember where I downloaded this but the one I have appears to be more updated than the file you linked to me... look at this changelog from within the gallery_random.php:

// To read the license please visit http://www.gnu.org/copyleft/gpl.html
// ----------------------------------------------------------------------
// Original Author of file: adam_baum w/Patrick's help ;)
// Based on: Bharat Medirattas random block
// Modified to fit in PN: Joerg Holzapfel (j.holzapfel@web.de)
// Purpose of file: display random picture from gallery.
// ----------------------------------------------------------------------
// History:
// 2002/08/10 Edited Bharats block to fit in PN 0.7*
// 2002/08/11 Applied some fixes found at different locations
// 2002/09/04 Disabled sessioning because this was
// causing an error in session.php (Line 55) in gallery 1.3.1
// 2002/10/13 Added thumb resizing
// 2002/10/16 Fixed "cannot redeclare function" error
// Now it's possible to use the sized image or the thumb for
// display.
// 2002/10/17 Cache file is not generated anymore if a user is logged in.
// This minimizes the problem that pictures are shown which
// should not readable by everybody
//
// Some cleanup in sourcecode.
// 2002/10/21 V.52b Now can draw border around image
// 2002/10/27 V.53b Some bugfixes regarding album-highlights. Thanks to John
// for the report.
// 2002/11/03 V.54b Added selection of a specific album to display. It
// currently only displays the contents of the selected album not
// the nested albums. The albumlist is not sorted yet!
// 2003/09/06 Tested the block with 1.4 RC2. Seems that it works fine on that
// release.
//
// 2003/12/08 Tested the block with 1.4.1. Seems that it works fine on that
// release.
//
// 2003/12/20 Modified $GALLERY_EMBEDDED_INSIDE defaulting to "postnuke"
//
//

global $GALLERY_NO_SESSIONS;
global $GALLERY_BASEDIR;
global $GALLERY_EMBEDDED_INSIDE;
global $GALLERY_MODULENAME;
global $gallery;

$GALLERY_MODULENAME = "gallery"; //Change this to your module Name
$GALLERY_BASEDIR = "modules/$GALLERY_MODULENAME/";
$GALLERY_EMBEDDED_INSIDE = "postnuke";
$GALLERY_NO_SESSIONS = true;

Looking at the gallery_random.php file you pointed to me, the last history was this:

// 2002/10/16 Fixed "cannot redeclare function" error

but I will try that and see if it works. Thx.

Actually, I just used that gallery_random.php file that you linked and when I installed it, I got the "Gallery needs Reconfiguration" msg.

Now I remember why I had to use this version of gallery_random.php.

That one works for me.. but like I said.. when you click on a random picture, goes to the gallery standalone link rather than w/in the postnuke theme.

Hi,

as I see lots of post on the Block I can join in with the same problems :-)

Now I installed the latest version and get this error message
Warning: Invalid argument supplied for foreach() in /www/D000348/www.skiclub-erding.de/htdocs/modules/gallery/pnblocks/gallery_random.php on line 484

if I coment this code out i just get "No photo chosen. "

I installed the latest block under modules/gallery/pnblocks running lthe latest Postnuke version and Gallery 1.4.1

I tested a version of gallery_random.php before as well as under includes/blocks

any Ideas
thanks a lot

you can test it under www.skiclub-erding.de

Your Gallery settings were configured with an older version of Gallery, and are out of date. Please re-run the Configuration Wizard! Here's how:

I had this same problem, but switched to the version that QuaziModem posted and all is working now. Also it seems to work fine for me when clicking on the image or album title. It stays in the PostNuke "wrapper".
