"uploading..." screen does not load when adding ph

When I add photos, the "uploading..." screen does not show up.
I select the files and hit the upload button, and the browser just sits there until the file(s) load and then gives me the status screen.
This is not really a big problem, but it is somewhat of a nuisance.

Originally, when I would add a photo and hit the upload button, the screen would shift to a message that said the files were uploading and to be patient.

Does anyone know how I can get this message to appear again during upload?

The only things that I have done that seem to make the gallery settings different from normal are:

installed the gallery on a subdomain - I set up the config from the subdomain, and I can only login from the subdomain.site.com url, not from the www.site.com/subdomain even though the gallery appears using either. I don't know if this is normal or not.

added hotlink protection to the .htaccess - This caused problems with the main page of the gallery (albums.php), so I added an index.html with a redirect tag to the index.php, and now it works fine.

UPDATE: Well, for some reason, the problem has corrected itself, even though I have not changed any of the settings or files. So, nevermind, I guess.
