Trouble using random block with large gallery

I am running into an issue with PHP memory and random block. The gallery in question has approx. 2600 photos and growing.

Unfortunately my host won't raise my PHP memory any higher than 8MB for "security reasons" and they don't allow me to do it myself through an .htaccess file.

I am wondering if anyone out there has found or built a better STANDALONE random block for larger galleries. I'm looking wor one that preferrably doesn't use a cache like most of them.

I did see someone had the good idea of using a MySQL database as the cache at http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=11472, and I could do that. Unfortunately, his instructions on what he did are very vague (at least for my novice skills) and I'm not sure his script will work for a standalone gallery.

If anyone wants to see the gallery just out of curiosity, it is at http://www.alphapsirho.com/v4/multimedia/gallery/index.php

I am running into exactly the same problem... My gallery passed 2800pics and my site went bezerk!
block-random refused to work anymore, search crashed too...
My host told me that there might be an issue with that 8Mo php limit thingy, does anyone have more details on this?

I posted my suggestion in this topic:

http://gallery.menalto.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=13587

I made a database version for PN, but the most people reported the same error even after the installation of this version. If you are using it in PN you can try the database enabled version.

You can get it here.

Maybe it is useful for you. But don't be to disappointed, if it brings no effect on your problem.
