First off Gallery 1.X rocks it's hands down the best out of both paid and GPL galleries.
My question is about what % would you call 2.X done I know you said it's functional. But how functional? I would love to pre alpha test for you but need it to be semi stable, and being able to costomize the layout a little would be nice too. I am happy you are not rushing the development of Gallery 2 and think when you are done you will be taking gallery programs to the next level.

it's not quite up to date, some additional things are already complete.
bottom line: quite stable, so you can play with it and it should work. but you'll most likely experience some bugs which you could/should report.
as for customizing the layout: don't know.
