Can't view albums through GR 1.3 interface

I've installed Gallery Remote 1.3.1 on my Linux machine. I can connect to my site with no problem, but my albums do not appear in the left-hand pane. I can also upload photos with no problem and view photos I've uploaded as well as create new albums, but regardless of how many albums I have, none are displayed by the GR interface.

Very odd. I have java 1.4.2_03 installed on this machine.

GR only shows albums you have write-permission to and their parent albums. If you log in using a user who doesn't have write permission, this would happen. Is that the case?

I'm logging in using my admin account. Even if I create an album through the GR interface, it won't show up.

Seems as though a number of people are affected by this. Hopefully we'll get some resolution to this soon. :)

abstrakone, I logged into your gallery no problem, so this is a client-side problem and GR bug.

I'll need help from people who are having this problem to resolve it.

The first thing to do is see if there's an exception being thrown. Can you:

Quote:
In file GalleryRemote.properties (in your Windows profile directory, ex: C:\Documents and Settings\<your userid>\.GalleryRemote), set

toSysOut=true

In file Gallery Remote.lax (in the directory where Gallery Remote was installed), set:

lax.stdout.redirect=console
lax.stderr.redirect=console

Then run GR. A DOS console window should be shown. For it to be useful, you should right-click on its menu bar, go to Properties, Layout and increase the Screen Buffer Size to a height of 5000.

Then log in with GR and see if any exceptions are printed to the log. Can you add any exception to this thread?

Thanks!

levak, is this what you get in the console window when you make the changes I suggested earlier to Gallery Remote.lax?

OK, I ran into the same problem as all you. Working on the suggestions to obtain output, but first I want to make an observation.

I cleared my config and started from scratch. When it first came up, there were three "albums" listed (food, sports, colors, or something). These must be default. When I went to add my URL, the window was covered, and when it uncovered, those three were gone. Additionally, at times, I was able to see a small piece of the tree button for my albums, but when it was covered by another window, that disappeared.

My guess is this is a refresh problem in Java for Linux. I am using Blackdown Java V. 1.4.2-RC1 on Mandrake 9.2/Cooker. Probably some window-drawing issues as well. Not sure, but just a guess.

OK, let's try another tack: can you run GR by opening a shell window and typingjava -jar GalleryRemote.jar

This should print the log and any exceptions to the console.
