I see that most users of Gallery just throw things in albums based on an event, much like was done in Mom and Dad's old picture albums in the attic. (If I ever actually wanted to find something in one of those albums, I wouldn't know where to begin.)
What is the bad thing about having categories? I think it is something that would help organize images. Albums could be layed out in a date heiarchy and categories could cover different types of events or picture types, bridging over the album boundaries. (That way, I would know where to at least begin searching for that special "something".)
Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Gallery. It is the best image gallery program out there. The new java-based view is fantastic! The reason I chose Gallery was precisely for its asthetics. I had considered another image gallery program that does an excellent job at organizing images, called Zoph, but I opted for the flashier Gallery. I'm happy with my choice. I just see that improvements could be made in the whole organizing scheme. And, categories would help a lot.
I realize that Gallery is not an image database. However, I wish that the future direction of it would head more toward a better organization scheme of the images. Just my two cents, for what it's worth.
