What ever I do to switch language ... I don't succeed. Neither with German or French or ... neither for my profile nor for anyone or any group.
Am I missing something?
Version is gallery2-2004-06-04, fresh installation, I loaded the tar.gz and untared it using tar on the command line, running Gallery2 on a Mac,
anything else works fine
(expept maybe it became a little bit slow? ... )

Ulrike, can you tell me exactly what happens when you try to change languages? Can I get the url to your G2 and an account there so that I can try it for myself? I just tried it on my G2 and that functionality worked fine, although there's a lot of untranslated text.
We know that it's gotten a little slow. The main performance hit right now is that the random imageblock can take several seconds to choose a random image. You can disable that module to speed things up, or wait for us to optimize it (very soon).

Sorry, this took a while ...
I'm cautious ... and installed gallery2 on my desk top.
When I switch ... nothing happens. No matter what language.
I know there where some problems concerning the system locale of macs (which out to play no role in this game), but I can switch to german with gallery 1.4.x on my mac and the older version of gallery2 running on our server presents us with a fine translation.
Maybe it's the best to install gallery2 in "the real web" and see whether the problem hikes ...
I'll be back

Again, if you could provide me with a URL to your G2 and an account there so that I can see it happening, that would help me to diagnose the problem...

bharat,
In order to give it a try, I switched mine to "French". Only 2 items on the main page have been translated to french. Here is the action list :
* add items
* add sub-album
-> * ajouter un commentaire
* edit album
* edit permissions
-> * réorganiser les éléments
* view slideshow
However, Admin UI is much better.
Anyway, I didn't check yet (away from the machine) that the french language file is complete.

Lapinoo, you're seeing what we expect. We haven't translated much of G2 into French yet. Actually, I haven't been pushing people to do translations yet because I don't want you to waste your time before we are confident that we're not going to be doing too many more string changes. After alpha we'll push much harder for that.
I'm not sure what's going wrong on Ulrike's system. Perhaps she doesn't have gettext installed?

Hi!
You got it. Shame on me, I didn't have gettext installed (new iMac, and they all look alike). PHP as delivered with Mac OS X.x comes without allmost anything. Updated to PHP 4.3.6 with -gettext and now I see quite of lot of french and german).
Sorry.
I'll take a walk through gallery now.

Ulrike -- hey, it's not your fault that the application led you to believe that it would perform translations, but then didn't follow through! This is a bug in the user interface. I've fixed it so that if you don't have gettext installed:
Hopefully that'll keep this from happening again! Thanks for the bug report.[/]

Oh Mann (transl: Wow!).
I would still play with Apple's "PHP for the poor". So this was killing two bugs with one stone.

PS: I saw "Matrix" is back in tables again ... "Let table data be in tables" the W3C said.

I have Gallery 2 (2.2.2) on Windows XP with IIS 5.1 running just fine. I am trying to add multilanguage support. I have the multilanguage plugin installed and activated. I have the gettext extension loaded. I configurred an alternate language "Francais" and added some text to some of the albums. In IE 6, I configured French (either French (France)[fr] or French (Canada) [fr_CA]) as the primary language, and I see that working when I go to Google's home page but I cannot get Gallery 2 to display the localized strings I entered on the Multilanguage tab of any album.
What am I missing?
