.htaccess/mod-rewrite issue

I have a config issue.
When running the config, I get these two errors...

ive tried adding those lines to many many differnt locations in my httpd.conf file, restarting apache and no change. it appears to me that mod_rewrite is enabled. i could be wrong. This is my first Linux/apache/nuke/gallery setup for linux.
weird thing is.. so far, it seems like everything works....but i do get a "Sorry no such file.." error on every pop-up page.

Also, FYI, i took 2100 images from a gallery 1.3.1 version, tar'd em, ftp'd em to the new gallery. untar'd into the albums directory and changed the user from root to apache on all the albums and files and the upgrade worked perfectly...good job, i didnt lose a single folder or image!! thanx for a good product!
