When submitting a problem report to the support forums, there are a number of things which will make answering your question easier on all of us. (We won't have to re-request information, and it will go a lot faster.)

0. Understand that everyone who answers questions in the forums are volunteers.
We do not get paid for providing our time or experience to you. This means that we do not watch the forums at all times, so sometimes it can take 24-48 hours for someone with the proper expertise to respond to your question. If you haven't gotten a response in 48 hours, feel free to bump your post by replying to it. This will ensure that we see you still haven't gotten an answer. In the same vein, if you are rude to the volunteers, they do not have to answer at all.

1. Read the Requirements, Documentation and FAQ
Please read all of the available documentation before submitting an issue. Many times your answer can be located by just looking at one of these two pages. In the FAQ, sometimes error messages are not identical.. keep an eye out for similar looking problems. (Key words like 'Permission Denied', etc.)

2. Do not add your problem report to someone else's thread.
This will slow down our ability to respond to you because the post my get lost, and the information that we request will probably not be added to your reply.

3. If you're seeing an error message, include the entire output from the error, not just the message by itself, or your summary of what it said.

4. Completely fill out the information form in your new post.
The information form:

Quote:
Give us your Gallery/webserver information to get a faster answer.
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful):
Gallery version:
Apache version:
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please):
Graphics Toolkit:
Operating system:
Web browser/version (if applicable):

What a filled out form should look like:

Quote:
Give us your Gallery/webserver information to get a faster answer.
Get this information from the PHP diagnostic (in the configuration wizard).
Gallery URL (optional but very useful): http://www.cothlamadh.net/gallery
Gallery version: 1.4.3-pl2
Apache version: 1.3.29
PHP version (don't just say PHP 4, please): 4.3.9
Graphics Toolkit: ImageMagick 6.1.3
Operating system: FreeBSD 6.0
Web browser/version (if applicable): FireFox 1.0

In frustration, I would like to add to this:

From now on, I refuse to answer any posts that does not have the information form filled.

It's getting tired, real fast, to time and time again have to ask for the information that you are initially asked to fill out. There is a reason for the questions, and it does help us help you. If you don't fill it out, I'll regard that as an incomplete post and disregard it.

I would also like to add something:

Please use a "speaking threadname".

Bad: "PLEASE HELP ME!
Good: "Error: Userfile not writeable"

SuperBad: "Gallery Problem"
Good: "'Add photos' via URL causes fatal error"

Bad: "Manage Users: Where?" (because you didnt really looked around in your Gallery)
Good: "When i am logged in i cant manage users"

Some of us are not Pros, and do not know as much as you guys.

Maybe if you showed a little empathy in that aspect, maybe someone would "pay it forward", on helping you with something you are not so "geuins" about.

Most of us have never been on here before, and do not know all the "jargon" associated with things, or where to look for stuff.

Just saying..........

KingCard,
I would tend to agree with you, up to a limit.
I was personally active on these forums during the last month and I have a general impresion that 50-80% of the support requests are having answers in the style of: Please read ... (FAQ/TROUBLESHOOTING/INSTALLATION).
So it is my suggestion also that the requesters should read the documents before posting.

Sometimes, the questions are in the form of "Blank screen ..." with no further details.
How do you think that someone can help without providing some extra information ?

Regards,

Hello King Card,

i don't know if you are talking to me, but my posting was not to compromise user that are new to Gallery.
I wanted to say that i wish people would think a little more about what they write.

Just think how you act in normal live, do the same here.

I'm not sure if this is the right section to be asking this question. I have had a terminal computer and just got up and running again. When I go to my website with the Gallery added http://www.purbeckbreaks.com/Gallery and try and log in to enable me to upload photographs etc., it keeps saying that it is invalid username and password. I assumed I had the username and password but it just won't work. I have tried changing the password at http://gallery.menalto.com/user/219700/edit and it allows me to log into that area, but when I try and go to the website and log it = no joy. HELP

Hello Spida,

please open a separate thread, this is the wrong one.
Apropos wrong....

You need to change the password in YOUR Gallery, not on this page. :-D
