What happens? Any more error output? Enable debug mode/devMode in config.php and try again. Also, please post 1.4.4-RC1 bugs in this thread.

Could we possibly get a test account to try this (write access to one test, hidden album will be fine)?

This might be a client side issue. I had this same problem which was solved by switching :cry: from Firefox to IE. The source seems fairly simple so I don't know why this is the case, Bueller?

I still have that issue - tested with IE 5.5 under Windows 2000 and Firefox 0.9.3 under Linux. Gallery 1.4.4 under Apache 1.3.27 and PHP 4.3.1. Open the move or rename album link, a pop-up window shows up, but it is just white. Viewing source shows the html/head/body open and close tags and that is all. This is with a gallery that was upgraded from a 1.3.x gallery, with no integration to any CMS as well as a gallery that is integrated with GeekLog 1.3.9sr1.

Enabling debug and developer mode in the standalone gallery install reveals no info. Apache error and access_logs do not report anything unusual. FWIW, IE 5.5 gives it's 'cute' error and reports: "Cannot find server or DNS error"

Any tips? I can give a developer access to the standalone gallery if need be. Feel free to e.mail me...

FYI, I'm going to upgrade my PHP and Apache install today and see if that helps this problem out; I'll post again with more info if it does/doesn't.

Gallery v1.4.4-pl1

Apache 2

I cannot reorder or move albums either.

Debug mode does not provide any information.

When I click on reorder or move album I get the popup window with the DNS error message. "Cannot find server or DNS Error"

Otherwise gallery works fine.

If necessary I can create an account for you to test it out.

I have the same problem. I cannot reorder, delete, or move albums on my main page. Sub-albums appear to have all functionality. I am running gallery v1.4.4-pl1, Apache 2.0.50 on Windows XP, and PHP 4.3.0. Apache crashes twice any time I try to do any of the above (reorder, delete, or move albums on my main page), and then I get the "This page cannot be displayed.." error in IE and Mozilla Firefox. This was not an upgrade from a previous install--Apache, PHP, and Gallery were all fresh installs.

I "downgraded" to 1.4.3-pl2 and have no problems...

Any word about a fix?

Interesting news. I'm still upgrading my apache/php. However, I did a fresh install of Gallery 1.4.4pl2 last night [this morning?] with one of my geeklogs, and the move and reorder works fine! My other 1.4.4 install with the same version of Geeklog does not have a functioning move/reorder.

I'm about 30 minutes [hopefully] away from getting apache and php recompiled. Having a problem with ming-0.3a compiling, which has kept me up all night, but I think I have finally solved it.

More info....The gallery install that has 1.4.4pl2 contained 2 albums; neither had photos in them. I added a photo to one album, and the 're-order' function still worked. I then added a photo to the 2nd album, and now the re-order function will not work again. :-( This is still with apache 1.3.27/php 4.3.1, but i'm in the process of upgrading php/apache right this second...

It works! Moving to PHP 4.3.8 and Apache 1.3.31 did the trick. Even with albums that are full, I can move/re-order them just fine with both 1.4.4 and 1.4.4pl2, both embedded in Geeklog and a 1.4.4pl1 non-embedded Gallery install.

It is strange that when one has an empty album, and running an older version of apache and php, that the re-order function works fine. But with the new versions of php/apache listed above, I can now move and re-order even when there are no empty albums in my gallery.

This'll be a fun bug to find. :-)

I am having the same problem using PHP 4.3.1 and apache 1.3.27. I do not have the ability at this time to upgrade either of those. Was there a change to the code that can be fixed. I just get page can not be displayed when clicking on delete, move or reorder from the root of the gallery. I have also installed gallery.1.4.5-cvs-b128 and have the same issue with it. Everything else in the gallery works great.

I have the same issue with 1.4.4-pl2 running with PHP 4.3.1 and was unable to solve the problem. Firefox, IE, Opera - made no difference.

I deleted all the 1.4.4-pl2 files, overlayed a 1.4.3-pl1 version I was running elsewhere on my server, and everything's back to normal.

I'd love to see it fixed, but for now, I've got to stick with what works.

I have just confirmed after much screwing around that 1.4.4-pl2 is allowing me to reorder my images again after installing PHP 4.3.9 (w/Apache 1.3.31). 'Upgrading' to 1.4.3-pl2 was not going smoothly at all, nor was a clean 1.4.3-pl2 install working out as expected so compiling PHP ended up being the easy option. Huge respect to Dreamhost for allowing SSH access. This would have taken days experimenting on dialup.

Okay it's late, but hopefully I will still make sense...

I managed to narrow the problem down to the function unhtmlentities().

In my case it seems that if the alternate text for the gallery is empty, then it passes a blank variable to the unhtmlentities function and the older version of PHP doesn't like this.

Since the programmers of gallery are using a newer version of php they will probably not notice alot of things that break on older versions of php, so it wouldn't be a bad idea to upgrade your php if you can. However, if you are like me and are unable to upgrade easily (i.e. I have plesk rpm, with intertwined php/apache/mysql rpm's), then here is how I corrected this problem:

Open up gallery/lib/lang.php
Go to line 607
Enter this line of code:
if (!strlen($string)) return "";

And here is a chunk of code from gallery/lib/lang.php with this line entered into it.. To give you more of a feel of where it is located:

/*
** Convert all HTML entities to their applicable characters
*/
function unhtmlentities ($string) {
        global $gallery;

        if (!strlen($string)) return "";

        if (function_exists('html_entity_decode')) {
                $nls=getNLS();
...

Hopefully this will help you guys also...

You're the MAN! That sure enough fixed it!
I'm in the same boat as far as upgrading. I can only imagine how long it must have taken you to find this... Very much apprieciated!

Thanks for the fix dude. Been trying to track this one down for a while but the closest I got was knowing it was something to do with language.

Cheers

Thats fantastic ...
I had the same problem and spent the night searching for a solution ...

I recommend this fix goes into the next update if the developers could be informed, or at least make this a sticky or somthing ..

(assuming it works with new versions of php - i have v4 as well)

works great now, wish I knew about it earlier !!

This has been fixed in 1.5-cvs for a while, now. I didn't know it was actively causing issues in 1.4.4.
