With so many languages now available for Gallery, it would be really great if there was a single compressed download available containing all of the latest languages packs. Downloading 30+ languages separately gets old fast. ;-) |

Hello,
my Name is Jens Tkotz. I am responsible for language related code in G1 and also for managing the langpacks.
I am pretty sure that you dont NEED ALL languages.
There is also a "problem" with the current langpacks.
We have a lot languages that have different encodings
ISO-8859-1, -2, -8, -9, BIG5, UTF8, KOI8-R ...
So if you write a comment in japanese or korean and then switch to english it will look broken.
If we would encode everything to utf8, the universal charset, then it were no problem. But then we would break the embedding into phpnuke, postnuke and so on ..
We talked about this in the team and think it might be good to make a package that fits to the most people.
Can you tell me which languages you need ? and maybe why ?

I have a small members only standalone gallery site that has attracted a number of members from many areas of the world, and I never know who else might come along. Comments are all in English, but I see no reason not to allow someone from another country to use Gallery in their preferred language, so I have all different lanaguages installed.
Perhaps a major compilation language pack for stand alone galleries?
