i have no clue how to do this programming stuff, or how to make translations, so i guess i'll make a request for a Greek translation. I am also willing to offer any help in translating the English into Greek, since I am fluent in Greek. Thank you |

Hello Cryo,
creating a new Gallery translations is not that diffcult.
I make a suggestion.
I prepare everything you need for a greek translation.
You download and install poEdit from sourceforge.net
Then you download my prepared files and start translation.
What to you think ?

Has some made Greek translation for G2

the status of the Greek (el) translation of g2 is at 2%, very low.
help translating g2 into Greek would be greatly appreciated.

ok we have moved to version 2 but no proper translation found for Greek language. I am planning to translate G2 for my site. Please prepare a pack of the files that need to be translated and i'll do the job and send it back to you within a couple of days.

If I knew how to make all these files I would help with the Greek translation too but since I am using windows I found it hard to get all the programs needed to make the po files etc. and managed only poEdit to work on my pc.
I know the greek translation is only at 2%, hopping to get it better. The only el.po I found was the one in the core/po/ folder and the only translation I get when I have the language on my gallery to greek is only the "Add Item" which is indeed translated. Everything else is in English.
Excuse my ignorance but I am not a programmer or anything. I can just translate since Greek is my language and if someone could give me some more guidance I could try to help with the translation.
And here comes my question. If I take a po file lets say eu.po file within the modules folder, and change the translation there to greek and save it as el.po(for greek) will that work?

Yes, if you aren't able to use the makefile ("make el.po") then you can copy some other po file, rename it to el.po and edit as needed. Gallery 2.2 is releasing very soon, so any updates you can submit in the next few DAYS would be great!

Thank you mindless, I will just do that then starting from now. One last question though. Can I use Rosetta too? or the files there are not the latest ones? The core el.po translation is now upto 50% there and wondering if I should keep on working on this or start with the ones in svn?
well I thought to give svn a try
downloaded svn and did a checkout for https://gallery.svn.sourceforge.net/svnroot/gallery/trunk/gallery2
so I guess these are the latest one, if I am correct?
anyway, I'll try and let you know of the process

rosetta is not ready yet! we've just started experimenting with that site to see if it will work for us... for now just submit translations via sf.net as described in the docs, thanks!

that's what I am doing, through the svn files.
oh my it's not that easy lol well at least less than 250 left for the core file
hope to finish it today and then go for other modules :|
if there is any other greek that would like to help, or review for any wrongly translated strings please lets get in touch. I know there are a lot of greeks that uses gallery
how can i test the .po file that I am translating now to see how it shows? or I can't?
i apologize if I ask too much questions but never used a .po file before

questions are no problem, glad to help.
if you've got your environment setup so the makefile is working, the step in the docs with 'make install' is what compiles the po file so gallery will use it. so you'd:
- svn checkout into a web-accessible directory
- access this directory from your browser and install G2
- use 'make el.po' to create/update a po file, then make edits with a tool such as poEdit
- use 'make install PO=el' to compile the po
- access the gallery in your browser to see the new translations in action
NOTE: translations may be cached in your webserver, so in some setups you must restart the webserver to see new translations
When you complete the core el.po file please submit it on sf.net.. I can take that file and use it to copy translations to other modules that have the same strings. If you do matrix theme I can do the same to copy translations to other themes.
Since we're nearing the 2.2 release (probably tomorrow), I suggest submitting core asap and trying to get some parts of the installer and matrix theme done. Thanks for your help!

I feel so stupid
I finally managed to find out how to make the .mo file work and check the translation before sending them to you
yoooohooooooo (well should read the localization instructions more carefully next time. It was so easy and was trying it the hard way 
)
I wasn't following the "The translation files get cached by PHP (which is why it's so fast) so you may not see change until you restart your web server. "
so now I managed to make the .mo file that poedit creates work
more greek translations are getting ready and a correction for the core.
