Hi,

What are the main differences between Gallery 1 and 2? Given that both are still available for download on the site, it seems logical, that the FAQ section, or the Overview, or the "I need help" sections would elaborate a little about his very basic question.

I downloaded Gallery 2 Alpha, but found that it seems to be overly complex. I'm a technical person, but I don't feel like creating a database just for a simple gallery I might want to set up. So I wanted to find out if Gallery 1 is a simpler version which would be more suitable for my use; but your website doesn't really elaborate.

The Gallery site has lots of details which is nice, but you need the big picture too.

Well, the primary difference at the moment is that G2 is alpha and isn't ready to be used on production sites.

G2 is database driven instead of file driven which has probably been the #1 requested feature in all the years that Gallery has been around. It will make for much better scaling - where G1 currently runs itself into the ground when you start adding tens of thousands of photos, G2 will keep running brand new.

G2 also adds the concepts of plugable modules, and events. Modules allow for better features, and events allow for feature interaction.

If you're planning on setting up a Gallery anytime in the near future, it should be G1, just because G2 isn't really supported or upgradable at the moment.
