I have this thumbnail problem too.
One thing i notice: if I run ./pnmtojpeg from a command line
i get error message "FATAL: kernel too old"

anyone have luck with an older version of netpbm?
or should i just switch to imagemagick?
don't understand why i'd choose one tool over another, anyway.

New gallery installation no albums yet.
Problem not solved by flock or fixing paths.
Gallery 144pl4. Netpbm 144pl2. No imagemagick.
Server is Apache 1.3.x and PHP 4.3.x.

snsh, downgrade to the NetPBM 1.1 files, or use IM. Also, in the future, create a new thread and answer the questions asked when posting.

my mistake our errors were possibly unrelated,
but downgrating netpbm, removing netpbm, and adding im
did not fix the problem.

this seems to need a programming solution.

edit: oops! mea culpa. netpbm1.1 fixed it after changing gallery's pnmtojpeg/ppmtojpeg setting

[I split this post from the original one]

Well,

a) If you changed to ImageMagick, you will not see the same error. You may possibly still be unable to upload pictures, but it'll not be the same verbose error message.

b) The 1.1 NetPBM will work, and again, it will not generate the same error message.

Please provide some new debug info if you want help.
